Hi, I’m Anitra. I am currently the Senior Advisor for Learning and Teaching at RMIT Online where I focus on creating quality online learning experiences and developing new online programs. Although I now work across a range of disciplines I specialise in design studio learning and teaching. I am an alum of the Monash University design school MADA, and hold a masters degree from the University of Melbourne’s Graduate School of Education.
I have a wide range of graphic design experience in a variety of roles in Australia and the San Francisco Bay Area. I was Senior Book Designer for Oxford University Press, and Penguin Books Australia, and Creative Director for London Road Design (a small San Francisco design studio), and the large Bay Area software company Intuit.
I’ve been a design educator since 2002, first as an adjunct for California State University. In 2006 I became Online Director for the School of Graphic Design at the Academy of Art University (AAU), San Francisco, and was promoted to Co-Chair in 2014. At AAU I managed the School of Graphic Design curriculum and built the online classes as well as teaching across the curriculum including; research methods, branding, typography, and design history. I managed the online student cohort, supervised graduate students, and lead the full-time online faculty team and a large international team of adjunct faculty. I worked closely with the Onsite Director, Online Education team and the Online Academic Steerage Committee on academic governance and projects to improve learning and teaching quality.
I live in Melbourne, Australia, and I enjoy the problem-solving and diplomacy necessary for academic development work, working remotely, and keeping a large distributed team running smoothly.
